On April 3, 2024, three international students and three Chinese students from the School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA) of Shanghai International Studies University had the unique opportunity to participate in a dialogue session with the Chairman of an esteemed French think tank, The Bridge Tank. The event was aimed at fostering cross-cultural exchange and exploring potential collaborations between SISU and The Bridge Tank.
The dialogue session, held at SISU, was graced by the presence of Dr. Joël Ruet, Chairman of The Bridge Tank, and Jean Bizet, former President of the European Affairs Committee, and ex-Senator of France. In the opening segment, Professor Guo Shuyong, Dean of the School of International Relations and Public Affairs, warmly welcomed the French guests and provided an overview of the college's International Studies Department and the university's main research groups.
During the session, the students engaged in discussions with Dr. Ruet and Dr. Bizet, exchanging perspectives on various global issues and sharing insights on Franco-Chinese and international relations. The interaction was particularly enriching for the students on a personal level for the students. For instance, one of the students from Morocco fluent in French, established a strong rapport with the guests, facilitating smooth communication. Another student from Bolivia, found common ground with Dr. Ruet when discussing his visit to Bolivia and their shared experiences, including meeting the ex-vice president of Bolivia. Additionally, a student from Brazil engaged in a dialogue with the guests about BRICS, adding depth to the conversation.
A key focus was on planning a delegation visit from SISU to The Bridge Tank in May, aimed at fostering further dialogue on Franco-Chinese relations, foreign policy, parliamentary cooperation, and national defense studies over a two-day period. The visit is envisioned as an opportunity for deeper engagement and collaboration between the think tank and the SISU delegation.
By actively engaging with renowned think tanks like The Bridge Tank, SISU aims to not only broaden the horizons of its students but also to nurture a deeper understanding of international affairs. Through such engagements, students are provided with invaluable opportunities to gain practical insights, develop critical thinking skills, and cultivate a sense of global citizenship, thereby contributing to international cooperation and fostering a deeper understanding of global issues.
